Six years ago my cousin Jane, who inspired and shaped so much of who I am today, left behind her sweet Italian husband and two beautiful babes. When her husband and their two children said they were coming to San Francisco, all the way from Italy, I knew that it was not even an option to pass up the chance to connect. Traveling to see them was going to happen, one way or another. So, the girls and I packed up my mom's car and drove south, stopping in redding to visit some friends for the night, and then on to Oakland the next day. It was surprisingly smooth with two little people who are not used to being car bound for so long. And I am pleased to discover that road trips can still happen the old fashioned way, sans technology, with only pens and post its, good music and snacks. Lots and lots of snacks.
